Our names are Debbie Collins and Philippa Wicksey and we are Booty Butter.
Like most women in the prime of their careers, child-rearing and just generally growing in awesomeness, we met through our children’s school. Having connected multiple times, through a group of school mums looking for a night out and a chance to laugh at our crazy schedules over drinks, we struck up a conversation about the lack of visibility and agency for women and those who identify as women in cycling. 

Debbie recounted, in only the comical way that Debbie can recount, her experiences with male-focused cycling creams. Let me just say, Debbie’s story of running out of chamois cream, stumbling upon a sample of menthol-based cream in her bathroom and the ensuing pain as the menthol, aimed to cool, seized upon the sensitive folds of a woman’s body. It made for a psychologically challenging and looooong bike ride for Debbie.  The rapture of laughter from our gaggle of mothers was palatable until Debbie and I stopped, looked at each other and shouted, 

“LETS MAKE A CREAM FOR WOMEN”. 

And so, Booty Butter was born! Debbie and I have striven to create an Australian-made chamois cream designed specifically for women, to decrease the occurrence of chaffing. A product that proudly calls women's full participation in the spotlight of cycling, acknowledging their presence and sensitive needs. A product that can be proudly displayed in one's bathroom as a luxury product, instead of hiding the traditional products, of which it’s masculine-allure appeals only to a car garage next to the lubricants for cogs. These masculine-centred products continue to marginalise women and ignore their equal participation in our modern society. 

We have created a product that is formulated to the appropriate ph for the tender anatomy of a women’s body, reflecting the sensuality of a women’s needs and a delightful fragrance. When individuals speak of their participation in this masculine-dominated sporting field, we often hear stories of women, distinguishing themselves from the masculine pack through bright colours. For example, Debbie does not usually dress in a manner that we would traditionally stereotype as feminine, in fact she speaks at length about hating colours such as pink as a child. But in her riding time she takes great pride in wearing the brightest pink colours in an attempt to proudly distinguish herself as female in the masculine pack. We wish to extend this mentality of feminine pride with brightly coloured packaging that clearly asserts the presence of women in male dominated environments. 

However, we acknowledge that each individual has their own colour preference and not all  women like the colour pink! This is why our products are available in multi-packaging, so that you can choose a Booty Butter that reflects your cycling spirit.

When we explore the history of amateur and professional sports, we are immediately assaulted with a disparity in pay, access, promotion, and emphasis of women's spirit full participation. We aim to highlight the valuable contribution women's spirit makes to the cycling scene. We look to raise women’s profile in the cycling industry, and by creating a product specifically formulated, we are acknowledging their participation and contribution to the sport.
